Summary

Another Great Mickey Haller Installment - 4。5 StarsI was SO looking forward to another Mickey Haller/Lincoln Lawyer book and this definitely delivered everything I was hoping for: great dialogue, interesting premise, exciting procedural, and a beloved cast of characters。 While the overall outcome was fairly predictable, The Law of Innocence was a blast to read。 4。5 stars

A great addition to the Lincoln Lawyer series。 And you get a little bit of Harry Bosch too。 You won't see the ending coming。 I was getting a little worn down by the legal details in the middle, but this is a story that will keep your attention。 A great addition to the Lincoln Lawyer series。 And you get a little bit of Harry Bosch too。 You won't see the ending coming。 I was getting a little worn down by the legal details in the middle, but this is a story that will keep your attention。 。。。more

A good fun read。

Haller is framed for murder and imprisoned。 Book is the investigative work, deductions, and trial prep for the effort to free him。 Bosch has a small involvement。

Good story but not really a thriller or mystery Good story but not really a thriller or mystery。 It did a good job of further developing the Lincoln Lawyer character。

Only my need for sleep has made me stop listening with a mere 52 minutes to go。。。😴😴”I was really quite enchanted by "The Law of Innocence"。 I am a fan of legal procedurals and this story almost filled the full five stars bill for me, but not quite。 I particularly enjoyed the court scenes and the interaction between Haller and his team members, including the beloved Harry Bosch, and between the prosecutor and her investigating detectives, and I loved the judge! What bugged me? Well, when I had “。。。a mere 52 minutes to go。。。😴😴”, I fell asleep looking forward to a cracker-jack finale, but it wasn't to be; in fact the way Mickey's trial was handled in the last stage of the book was a touch disappointing。 No spoilers of course, but plausibility, already somewhat stretched, was now in denial。 Secondly, I thought the introduction of the Covid-19 disaster and the way it was handled (or not) by Donald Trump was a gratuitous attempt to add a political dimension to the book。 Personally I think Trump is an unmitigated arsehole and all power to those Americans who kicked him out of office, but the addition of this material seemed to me like it was 'post-facto', that is, it was not contemporaneous。 It simply sounded like it was integrated after the book had been written and, as such, it was unnecessary and added nothing of value to the story。 I thought the narrator, Peter Giles, was very good。 He didn't attempt too many vocal interpretations, but I clearly understood which character was saying what and to whom he/she was saying it。 。。。more

It was a fair read。 Could have had a more creative ending to the trial。 Yeah there are a few pot shots politically but minor。

Great courtroom drama with many twists and turns, none from left field。 Mickey Haller framed for murder。 Police perhaps involved。 Mobsters scamming government over green fuel perhaps involved。 All complicated by Mickey's insistence on a speedy trial and his inability (at times) to meet bail。 Convict attempts to murder him on the bus。 Put up to it? By whom? Or mistaken identity as the convict claims。 Old girlfriend comes to visit, then goes。 Ex-wife joins his defense team。 Just a page turner。4。5 Great courtroom drama with many twists and turns, none from left field。 Mickey Haller framed for murder。 Police perhaps involved。 Mobsters scamming government over green fuel perhaps involved。 All complicated by Mickey's insistence on a speedy trial and his inability (at times) to meet bail。 Convict attempts to murder him on the bus。 Put up to it? He is being tried for murder; a little preoccupation might be excused。 She leaves; ex-wife returns。 Now Mickey is in love with her dark eyes and hair that curls down her shoulders。 Really, the only weakness and it takes up about 2% of the book。 。。。more

Haven't read a Mickey Haller, although I've read Harry Bosch books and a Renee Ballard book。 And although this was a good book, plot-wise and writing-wise, I am not sure I want to read any more Mickey Haller books。 Bosch is interesting--but Connelly really struggled to make Renee Ballard feel real (IMHO, of course)。 And Haller? There isn't a good male-female relationship in the book, between his two ex-wives (both of whom apparently live to serve him), and the young, beautiful woman he takes on a little vaca, between stints in jail。 Who eventually leaves, but--hey! no problem!。 More where that came from。 I get that Haller is supposed to be a smart, corner-cutting lawyer who outsmarts--well, everyone。 But there were about 25 times in reading this book that I thought--I know that guy。 And I don't like him。 Haller is the kind of character where you'd think, if you met him in real life: what an egotistical jerk。 And I guess that's supposed to be the hook--watching him operate is amusing。 But it wasn't amusing to me。 It was annoying。 And when the main character is consistently repellent, even a great plot and snappy dialogue and crisp writing and a fascinating courtroom drama aren't enough。 Barely four stars。 。。。more

I enjoyed The Law of Innocence。 I overlooked the political parts I didn't agree with but it didn't take away from Connelly's excellent writing skills and kept my interest all through his trial and its outcome。 He is a pheromonal story teller。 I enjoyed The Law of Innocence。 I overlooked the political parts I didn't agree with but it didn't take away from Connelly's excellent writing skills and kept my interest all through his trial and its outcome。 He is a pheromonal story teller。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I always enjoy Michael Connelly’s book, they are such a great read and twists are not always obvious as in some mystery books/series。 While this wasn’t my favourite Lincoln Lawyer book, it was still a really good story and enjoyed that Mickey was the defendant and had to prove his innocence and how this story weaved into some of the other books。 The references to COVID-19 felt like it was added in as an after thought and there were some other plot holes, but overall I still really enjoyed this b I always enjoy Michael Connelly’s book, they are such a great read and twists are not always obvious as in some mystery books/series。 While this wasn’t my favourite Lincoln Lawyer book, it was still a really good story and enjoyed that Mickey was the defendant and had to prove his innocence and how this story weaved into some of the other books。 The references to COVID-19 felt like it was added in as an after thought and there were some other plot holes, but overall I still really enjoyed this book。 I would also recommend reading The Fifth Witness (which is my all-time favourite Lincoln Lawyer book) before this book as there are references to events in that book that you need to know to follow along with the plot of this book。 。。。more

This is the first novel written in the (early) days of Covid-19 (although that's merely an incidental part of it)。 Mickey Haller finds himself in jail and on trial for a crime it seems he "must" have committed。 How will he not only be found NG (not guilty) but actually declared innocent? Mickey Haller gets setup for murder。 Why is the important question in this mystery thriller。 I always like when Detective Bosch comes to help his half brother by sharing his knowledge of the criminal mind。 Bosch, as well as Haller’s regular team, along with Haller’s ex- wife, his daughter’s mother, work a plan。Things go astray when the number one defense witness gets killed, and Haller refuses to use family/friends money to make bail。 Not making bail puts you in the clinker until Haller is found Mickey Haller gets setup for murder。 Why is the important question in this mystery thriller。 I always like when Detective Bosch comes to help his half brother by sharing his knowledge of the criminal mind。 Bosch, as well as Haller’s regular team, along with Haller’s ex- wife, his daughter’s mother, work a plan。Things go astray when the number one defense witness gets killed, and Haller refuses to use family/friends money to make bail。 Not making bail puts you in the clinker until Haller is found NG, not guilty。 Being in prison is no bed of roses for Mickey, even with the protection he’s bought。Predictable, but still entertaining。 。。。more

What an incredible let down。 One I was not expecting covid to be written into the story。 We’re living it, I don’t want to have to read it as well。 Two- the story started off relatively interesting but the ending, THE ENDING! It ended rather quick and packaged like a gift with a bow。 It was all too convenient。 Actually the entire story was convenient。 The characters pointless。 Why was Bosch here? As his brother and as an ex cop, it would make sense for him to be more prominent。 There was a lot of What an incredible let down。 One I was not expecting covid to be written into the story。 We’re living it, I don’t want to have to read it as well。 Two- the story started off relatively interesting but the ending, THE ENDING! I was really enjoying this book。 Until, that is, it ended like every single other book in the series。 You get to the end of the trial, and right before the jury is going to reach the verdict some random event happens that makes the jury’s decision moot。 Someone either gets shot or shoots someone or disappears and thus the jury is dismissed。 It’s like Michael Connelly doesn’t ever want the decision to come down to the jury。 This is the sixth book in the series。 I honestly can’t think of another b I was really enjoying this book。 Until, that is, it ended like every single other book in the series。 You get to the end of the trial, and right before the jury is going to reach the verdict some random event happens that makes the jury’s decision moot。 Someone either gets shot or shoots someone or disappears and thus the jury is dismissed。 It’s like Michael Connelly doesn’t ever want the decision to come down to the jury。 This is the sixth book in the series。 I honestly can’t think of another book in the series where the jury actually reaches a verdict。 。。。more

Another quick read, both by dint of it being a library loaner & my long days at work。 It is VERY contemporary, ending with the beginning of the 2020 COVID-19 shutdown。 In fact, one of the delineated days was my 55th birthday! Connelly is a master。

Equal parts mystery and in depth legal thriller。 Wasn’t aware of “law of innocence” concept until now。 Some plot elements a bit far fetched and ending came like a sledge hammer。 A bit quick and while plausible it reads like another government as big brother getting his comeuppance。 In spite of this I think this is his best so far。

This is my first Michael Connelly book and I will read more。 His story moves along with a few surprises。 We’ve watched the Bosch series on Amazon but didn’t realize Mr Connelly was the producer。 It, too, is very well done。
